Chapter 29-32

In chapter twenty-nine, Thomas couldn’t handle that the fact that the girl that is in a coma is talking to him in his head and ended up running out of the Glade and into the maze. Once he realized where he was and that it’s almost night fall he ran as fast as he could back to Glade. Thomas ended up sleeping in the dead heads (the forest in Glade). The next day he was awakened by Chuck who offered to go to the kitchen and get breakfast. As Thomas walked to the kitchen he remembered what happened to him last night and simply thought that the stress from the Gathering and trying to remember things caused him to hear things. As Thomas was eating breakfast Chuck updated Thomas on the news about Gally and how he ran away to the Maze after the Gathering and hasn’t returned yet. Then Newt entered the kitchen and reminded Thomas of his punishment and how he has to take him to jail.

Before Newt left Thomas in his cell he apologized that he had to do this but he had to show an example out of the situation because other people might try and break the rule and think they’ll get away with it. Hours pass and Chuck comes to Thomas’ cell to give him lunch. Thomas and Chuck ended up talking about the life that they probably had before coming to glade and if their parents missed them. Thomas then promises Chuck that they will leave Glade and the Maze and find their family.

As sun down came Alby came and unlocked the door to Thomas’ Cell and freed him. Alby felt strong enough to take back his position and release Thomas from his captivity. Alby reminds Thomas of that time when he was going through the changing, he told Thomas that he was afraid to tell anyone too much and hurt himself. But alby did tell him that when he saw him during his changing he saw Thomas help out the creators. Thomas felt really guilty when he found out that he helped do this but then Alby assured him that he’s a good person.  When night fall came Thomas could barely sleep because he was anxious to start his training as a Runner.

At sunrise Minho woke up Thomas for his training as a Runner. Thomas was given a pair of running shoes, a digital wrist watch, shorts and a t-shirt which would be considered the basic necessities as a runner. Thomas learns that they got all this by requesting it to the Creator. They would leave a note in the box and wait for a response however this would only work with reasonable requests. Another thing that Minho had to give Thomas is a knife that he was to carry on him when he goes out of the maze. The knife was in the weapon room that is hidden by a trap door. The end of the orientation took place at the Map room which were runners would return from their run and record what the maze looked like for that day. After that Thomas finally gets to do what he was waiting for, running.

These chapters have been a bit less action compared to earlier chapters so my idea of the calm before the storm may be also used here. I think that something even more devastating will happen. In chapter 30, when Newt said that he had to set an example by using Thomas it reminded me of Sony being sued, the type of legal action being taken is the type to show an example since their situation has never happened before.
